Appalachian Sound Finishes Highly Successful Inaugural Season

MAYDE’s flagship education program, Appalachian Sound Drum and Bugle Corps, finished its 2016 inaugural season on August 13th, 2016 at the Drum Corps International World Championship Finals and SoundSport International Music and Food Festival. Earning a Silver Rating from the SoundSport judges, the corps capped off a highly successful season with notable improvement over its SoundSport debut in Atlanta just two weeks earlier. The corps consisted mainly of metro Atlanta high school students who desired a challenging and fun drum corps experience without the heavy financial and time commitment of existing local options. Appalachian Sound performed in two DCI SoundSport competitions and performed in exhibition at three local drum corps shows, earning praise from judges and fans alike.

Appalachian Sound Director of Operations, Jordan Crawford, adds: “Not only has Appalachian Sound set an excellent standard for the future of the organization in terms of quality of education and performance, but the corps also ended the 2016 competitive season with a cash surplus, a full set of beautiful matching uniforms that we own outright with zero debt, and great relationships with our wonderful rehearsal site hosts and several other local pageantry organizations. Our future is bright!”
