Appalachian Sound Announces 2017 Brass Staff!

After a strong founding of the brass program in 2016, Appalachian Sound has welcomed some new faces to the brass team for 2017.

Christian Stephanos, who led the brass section last season, will return as Co-Brass Caption Supervisor.  Joining him as the other Co-Brass Caption Supervisor is Julie Gerhardt.  On hiring Julie, Christian said "I am so excited to bring Julie in to co-lead our brass program. She is an excellent and sought after educator, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have her on the team."

Julie is an avid hornist, playing in many orchestras and ensembles throughout the country. She is also an experienced educator, teaching throughout the metro-Atlanta area. As a performer, Julie was a member of Star of Indiana Brass Theater in 1997 and 1998, and a member of The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps in 1999. Christian is a freelance trombone player in the Atlanta area, and a marching band instructor at East Coweta High School. He is also the founder and director of Appalachian Sound. As a performer, he was a member of ALLIANCE Drum and Bugle Corps in 2010, and The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps in 2012 and 2013. You can read his full bio HERE

In addition to Julie, Appalachian Sound is excited to welcome Scott Jones and Bruce Mangan to the brass team!

Scott is an elementary school band director in DeKalb, County. He has performed and taught at all levels of both DCI and DCA. In 1989 and 1990, Scott was a member of Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps. In 2002 and 2003, he was a member of the CorpsVets Senior Drum and Bugle Corps. He marched lead soprano at both. His drum corps brass teaching includes Court of Honor Drum and Bugle Corps and ALLIANCE Drum and Bugle Corps. You can read his full bio HERE
Bruce is a freelance bass trombonist and an active music education paraprofessional. He has performed in ensembles throughout the country, and is currently teaching school brass programs in Cobb, Cherokee, Hall, and Jackson counties. Bruce has been on the brass staffs under Freddy Martin at Harrison High School and Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps, and has also been on brass staff at Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps, and ALLIANCE Drum and Bugle Corps.
